I can't help myself. I love baitcasters, but it seems a lot of crappie fishermen lean toward spin cast. Is it only due to the ability to cast lighter baits? What's your favorite setup for crappie?

Exactly lighter bites and also lighter in your hand if your using all day jigging. Favorite would have to be the jib/bober setup depending on depth either one or two jigs then giving what they want what size of jig

I never cast when crappie fishin, so all of my jiggin poles have low profile baitcasters on them. If I want a jig to move horizontal more than 20-25' before entering the water I'll use a dock shooter with a spinning reel.

Jiggin in 15 ft or less of water baitcaster is the way to go any deeper than that its easier to fish a spinning reel the line comes off much easier. Baitcasters are much less prone to malfunctions like the bail opening because the line isn't positioned right

Anything less than 15' I use a B&M reel (the plastic one) and any deeper a Spin caster!

Probing brush for crappie is my game!

Both, spinning and bait cast, depending on how they are feeding.

Fly rod and fly reel with 8 lb yellow mono, with a jig on the end. I guess that makes me a purist, lol.
