If you can adjust the ping speed and it gets better, then something is happening.
I have read that part of the manual posted and the way it is written says to me that if you have a card in, then you can adjust the ping rate for an "active" sonar recording. If the sonar is active and the ping is adjusted here, then the ping rate you see on the sonar is in fact, adjusted. Running at max I would imagine would fill a card pretty quick if it is recording raw data.
Really doesn't matter if you read it one way or another. What matters is if you get a better performance by adjusting it. One way to find out. Run over the same structure over and over adjusting from one extreme to another. If the unit shows a difference, then it makes a difference.
Some here say it does, some says it doesn't. Only your hairdresser knows for sure.
Just go try it. What do you have to loose? Nothing. What do you have to gain if it does? A lot.
Now stop banging heads against the wall. wink
BTW, I don't have one but am lookin.

I'm still curious on what software levels, because these ping results might be different on different units and different software levels.

Mel you have a great unit. what exactly are you wanting to learn, and where are u located?

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !
