Guys I'm getting on up in years and am a seasoned bass fisherman. I am planning a once in a lifetime trip to Fork.I will be staying for a week M-F but haven't decided where yet. I would like you guys to chime in and let me know some good places to start looking for fish and what to fish with at this time of year.I have not spent any time there except for a couple of weekends years ago but would like this trip to be a special one. Also, what week in March would you plan for if you could choose one week. Please help! Thanks, Ken E.

Before answering, do you mind crowds? Bumper-to-bumper boats in the best areas? Guys cutting you off? If you answered yes to any of these, I would not go to Fork in March. Mid-late May post spawn is some of the absolute best fishing on Fork for both numbers and size.

Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

Start with a guide on day one or two, that way you have an idea what and where the fish are. Don't waste a week in skunksville.
Skeeter_1 is good, as are several others.

March I would be fishing the northern ends of the lake..double willow white spinnerbaits, white chatterbaits, flippin jigs, swimjigs, weightless senkos and flukes, squarebills, wacky worms.. shallow ledges in the middle-back half of creeks, secondary points, stump flats etc. Hope this helps and good luck.

Mike

You can pick anytime you want in March, it is all a roll of the dice on water temp.

One thing for sure about March, the winds blow...blow...and blow in N. East Texas, they are so destructive that they usually dictate where you and every other boat fishes,

Hire a guide and quick! LFM is a great place to stay. Great food plus you'll be around 10's of other anglers who are seeking the same results.

Spring trips just can't be planned.
Weather totally dictates-
You might get lucky
May/June more stable weather for long range plans, plus with great deep water guides and great deeper stuff and less crowds, that time of the year might be better anyway.

March can be crowded but its worth it if you can find the big girls. All these guys are right. I would suggest getting a guide for a day to show you the pattern and whats going on. Oakridge and Lake Fork Marina are great places. Both have good food, good ramps, and lodging.

If you want to catch a giant, read this:
http://www.bassfishing.org/spawnbook/

Then go sight fishing... Then read it again & see what you missed the first time you read it.

I've been going down the last week in Feb for a few years. You get some stinker days with the weather sometimes but I enjoy every minute I'm there. There are a couple good powerplant lakes not to far up the road if it gets really cold weather. Getting a guide is high up the list.

Try the very back of Birch creek past the second highlines. 100's of old stumps and laydowns. Red rattletraps, senkos, spinnerbaits, jigs. If there is a lot of grass, look for the beds in 2-6 ft of water. The back right side of Glade creek is about the same. These were always my best spots in March. Also, you can try the backs of about any of the major creeks. On the way back, try any pockets, points, and creek bends you might come across. I know that is a lot of general info, but it has always worked for me.
