Help please. I keep hearing about flounder-runs off the Galveston ferry. However, I could not find the spot. Some said turn left after crossing the channel. Is that the 1st or the 7th street? Where do I go from there? Where can I park my truck... etc?
As for tackles, what hooks, lures, lines, rods, reels should I use?
Thank you very much.

Go anywhere. Use a lure or mullet. Drag slowly or hop slowly across the bottom. Flounder will eat it. Rod and reel make no difference.

Yeah...You can pretty much go with bass tackle. If you're throwing live bait it may help you to go with a circle hook. Take three or four sizes of circle hook to match the size of the bait. Think circle hooks in which the "circle is a little bigger than a dime but not as big as a quarter. Flounder bites are notoriously light and hard to detect. The circle hooks will help the flounder to hook itself. Id spool up with 10 or 15 pound P-line...You dont need to go heavier than that. Believe me..if you catch a 15+ pound flounder...your picture will be in the paper. People traditionally throw a Carolina rig style set up with a light lead weight. The lighter weight helps the bait to "waft" in the water column and strike zone a little longer on each "hop".....Lastly..fish slow and be patient. Flounder are particular little buggers about how and when they are going to take a bait. Once you have a bite DO NOT SET THE HOOK...wait a few seconds (flounder always situate a bait in their mouths before sucking it down)..slowly reel the slack out of the line then side sweep the strike set.

Great post, only thing i would add to it is that IF you have a lot of current you may have to add more weight to get it down to the bottom. flounder will set up on the edge of the current on the bottom. Cast up current and bring the lure back down current just hopping it along the bottom.. bump it up about 3 inches and let it waft across the bottom...repeat. also, if your going to use plastic.. you may consider tipping the hook with a small peice of fresh shrimp.
any channel leading from the marsh to the jetties should be good right now. fish the drop off of the channel and the flat above the drop.

For tipping the hook on the lure with bait for a scent trail try out this method of making shrimp bites. They stay on the hook better and are cheap to make. Smitty's bait shop in galveston sells dead shrimp for $4.50 a pound. Then pick yourself up a 99 cent jar of salt. Makes them more rubbery and stays on the hook better. Hope this helps you out. "Barstow", You are wrong, the flounder bites is not hard to detect. Ricky, You can tip the hook with stripe of flounder belly, stripe of piggy perch ,etc. Like in this pictures : image hosting image

Thanks Jean. We used to use squid strips back home. When they were really bitting we used to use a small piece of scented rubber worms and they would eat it right up. Nice looking catch there Jean!
Tight lines,

The flounder (Winter Flounder - Boston Harbor) was the first fish I ever caught. Their pupulation crashed up North. I never caught another and fished for striper and blues instead. Now that I'm in Texas - I wasnt to give it try again. It looks like these flounder actually hit artificial baits?

Oh yeah. Thats usually all I catch them on. Occasionally catch one on a mullet rigged up for redfish though.
