I found a good way to clean my reel bearings, I bought a jewelry cleaner at walmart for 14 bucks and put about 1/2 inch of lighter fluid in it, drop in the bearings and let it run for about 5 minutes. you can watch the grime come out of the bearings and the old grease. I sprayed them out with shop air them added one drop of quantum hot sause oil and they will free spin on the spool with no brakes for about 45 seconds, these are stock curado 200-E7 bearings. Hope this helps. If anyone has a better solution for cleaning im all ears.

Sounds like a good idea. I use lighter fluid all the time if it has napthum in it.

However, I quit using hot sauce. It seems like it has to be replaced a lot more often than the regular oil that came with my Curados.

Lighter fluid or any other flammable in a ultra-sonic cleaner is asking for a fire.

Your very right, maybe its not such a good idea, was thinking about that last night lol. But it sure works good. alcohol or simple green dont work as fast as lighterfluid. tried simple green.

What about the bearing thats by the pinion gear does this gear need to be cleaned and oiled? would this help with casting or is it only for when cranking?

I use Birchwood Casey Reel Scrubber. I just put the bearings in a half capful and you can see the goop start coming out. I'll take a pencil and spin the bearing a couple times and dip it again. Works quick.

I get it at Academy although its been a couple years since I got my last can.

oooeeee! lighter fluid in an ultra sonic cleaner. WOW! you can also get a glass jar with lid, like a baby food jar and put lighter fluid in it with bearing and just manually shake the jar.or lighter fluid in a coke bottle cap and swish the bearing in it, will also clean bearing.
in fact, if i remember correctly, in a ultra sonic, we actually don't need to use anything, the cleaner does the work, the ions or something, however, we don't use anything but bio-degradable like simple green in ours. Just be careful, read label on your lighter fluid.
