Man that is so true!!!
I only fish for dd fish period.
I have been obsessed for many years, way before I ever knew about this forum.
Too obsessed actually: I have been trying to just enjoy fishing and I am having lots of fun again.
To get one like you are saying, fish very very very slow.
Do that in relatively deeper water. Do not give up ever, no matter how long it takes or how many times you zero or get beat, but don't get too obsessed like I did!! Lol. I have learned that stuff the hard way over many years and by learning from many big bass hunters. Electronics have changed the big bass catching landscape drastically IMO. Deep water giant bass are more vulnerable now than ever, but slow presentation is usually still key.
btw - sight fishing IF you are good at it, is a great way to get a dd.

Now those are words of wisdom!

I agree..I think i have gone full circle time and time again. Living on Falcon it makes targeting anything other than monsters simular to staying on the porch. Sometimes it's good to change gears and target other species.
Wednesday with the bass bite not quite to expectations we targeted crappie. 35 Magnum slabs later it seemed like the write call.
35 slabs in the boat and one droid razor at the bottom of the lake.. LOL

I've caught one real close...9.98 on scale...my best fishing memory is still catching a bucket full of bream with my grandad.

Get it done, no excuses.

But to answer question...I find it tough because of course I want to catch the biggest fish I've ever caught, but I also love catching fish. It has to be a mental thing I guess. You must stay disciplined at times and leave the dink bite and search for the big one.

Get it done, no excuses.

I think a lot of fisherman do underestimate the lunker bass that will strike a topwater bait... How many times have you reeled in real fast to make another cast when a big fish slams your lure? that reaction strike can be so deadly... if they think it's escaping they almost can't stand not to strike at it at least once... if they are in the area that is....

At the same time cranking can be very addictive too... I kinda go topwater early and late.. then deeper during the day..

I love being on the water. Like many the stress of everyday life takes its toll on me, so just time in the out doors watching what god made for us to enjoy is very relaxing.

That being said.........One big bite!!!!

i almost never "fish" for bass ......
but every once in a while i "fish" for them ......
never caught a DD bass .....
but on 2 different occasions i think i lost one ......
both times i was bream ketchn and had them take my bream ......
one was never hooked to the best of my knowledge ....
she was at fork and holding on to my bream till she got to the boat
the second fish ate the bream and i thought i was tangled in brush ......
when the "brush" broke lose and came in to my surprise it was a monster bass.....
she very little trouble ending it though on 6# test

I caught my first DD 3 years ago. It was very exciting. But, I enjoy catching fish. So, I will take the numbers stretching my line.

Depends on trip. When fishing by myself I fish mainly for big bites unless I'm trying to learn new technique. Fishing with buddy we try to beat each other (very competitive) so I tourney fish, limit first then try for big bite. Do not want to lose to buddy because you have to listen to him till next trip.

This is just the best: well said- congrats-

And may I add #6 whether it is 1 or 5 you are experiencing

make a point to delve into and search to enjoy the "fellowship" of your partner. Those moments are special!

I fodh tournaments so I fish for 3-5lb fish. Now with the new 3 fish tournaments ill be targeting exclusively the 5+lb fish. Have slow mind set. Big cranks jigs, t-rigs flipping or even spook

It doesn't matter to me what size my fish is.....I just enjoy catching. When fishing a lake with big fish in it, I will try to employ techniques such as bigger baits, fishing ledges, deeper humps, and sharp contour drops, etc, but the most important aspect for me on catching 3 over 10lbs in the last year and a half, was concentrating on fishing a lot SLOWER. The big fish are always in these areas, probably nosing down at your bait as you consisently and methodically move it along the bottom. Try to be very erratic with the presentation..ie; leave it sit for 10 seconds, then give it fast 5 ft hops, kill it for another 5-10 seconds, shake it hard, sweep it hard and quick, kill it again for 10 seconds......you will pick up the biggens when it is sitting still, make sure to give plenty of time for kill mode.

I've fished all my life for a DD bass and I'm 52. Not until last year did it happen, 10lb 11oz in 2011, and 11 lb 13oz and 10lb 5oz 4 days apart in Feb 2012.....I attribute it to FISHING SLOW, and Lake Falcon, of course!!

Every time i get a chance to go out i am targeting a "DD"... I have been fishing since i was 4...32 now and stil no "DD" but a 9.8. Last year. when i go out i throw mainly big swimbaits nothing under 6 to 8in. It takes alot of hardheadedness and selcontrol when you have fished 5 hours without a bite and you know you could of caught 3 or so dinks if i would of just switched to a worm or something smaller. Throwing big baits can be very frusterating but extremely rewarding- for me its worth it but then again may not be for everyone... Good luck!

Simon Peter said to them "I am going fishing" They said "We are going fishing also."

Btw- please use a hook that is strong and does not straighten out with heavy bass tackle. Not to mention brands, but some are not good and I have seen and experienced pain from weak hooks.
