Does anyone use braid when deadsticking? Was thinking about using braid witha three foor leader..... Since the fish went deeper do you think this would improve hook set?

I typically use straight braid on anything that doesn't have a treble. When throwing something with a treble, I will tie a floro leader on. Should help you in detecting those super light winter time bites.

Braid, mono, flouro, it all works. It's timinig that is the key. I use and have used for several years now, 12 lb mono and have zero issues feeling the tap and setting the hook. I will say that a med/heavy rod that is 6' or 6'-6" is best since it wont flex as much when you set the hook. I typically use my slab rods to deadstick.

I personally use 30 lb braid at all times, no leader. Not saying I catch every hit, but I sure feel it! And ya never know when you accidentally hook into moby dick! I'd rather have 30 lb test than 12. Sorry El !! Lol

I actually have a few rigged up with mono, and I see no difference in catch or bite ratio. It's the operator. Those dead stick bites can be tricky!

Good luck
Mike

I use mono when on my boat and braid when on Luv's boat! Might be a difference but I catch and miss on both!

I use 15# big game in the summer and 20# in the winter, far as the deadstick bite just pull up slow and resist setting the hook and they do it for you.

During pot licking - I use no line. I take your fish from you!
