When someone purchases a fishing license over the online portal for TPWD, is the license immediately active or do you need to wait to get it mailed? Can someone buy a license for the other person if I have their info?
A friend of mine is out of the country and not back until Friday night. We are going out on Saturday early am and he does not have one. thanks

Does it say if there is a receipt for purchasing one?

Once the online purchase is made, you will be given a transaction code.
Write the code down and you will be ok. The GW can check for purchase with the code.
These can be purchased 24-7 so let your friend do it as soon as he gets here.

If you have all of your friends info you can purchase it. DOB, address, personal info, etc etc. Once the transaction is made just print out the sales receipt and it will have all the info a game warden will need to see. Your license will be in the mail in 4 to 5 business days. I usually purchase my wife's license every year on line.

you will be & are covered to fish BUT you wont and canot keep your one red fish over the size of 28" because you don't have your tag. They will get you for that one. But thats a small price to pay,by lettiong the fish go. You still GET to fish. It's the same with wanting to deer hunt. Can't do it because it REQUIRES a tag inwhich you don't have at the time of the kill.

Aqua PIMP - I'll have him purchase it online, he does have internet access... the other option would be to hop to an Academy or BPS and get it for him (if they will sell to someone else??)
Marc, I was just wondering about that. He probably would not keep a Red over 28" anyway, but who knows? I have no clue if his plane will land too late on Friday to make it to Academy or something and have him buying his own, just wanted to cover the bases

Walmart sells fishing licenses, most are open 24/7. Only issue will be finding a sale associate to get to the sporting good counter at a late hour. Also most academys are open untill 10pm

You can print the receipt and it will suffice until it comes in the mail.

You can buy a licence for someone else. As mentioned earlier in this string you will need his data to include his SSAN.

There will be a confirmation page that loads enabling you to print the online license until the real deal comes in the mail which is usually about 1-2 weeks.

Why does the state need our SSN for a fishing license?

Why does the state need our SSN for a fishing license? So they can check against the deadbeat dad warrants and collect child support. No, I'm not kidding
