I make that drive a lot, though I typically don't stop as often as I should. My suggestions would be for lunch as I don't make that drive too often during breakfast time.

Hwy 77 Cafe just north of Rosebud usually has a good crowd when I drive by, and I've been meaning to stop, but never hit it at the right time.

Snow's BBQ in Lexington is routinely voted one the top bbq joints in the state, but it's only opened on Saturday's and you better get there early.

City Meat Market in Giddings is pretty good.

Las Fuentes in La Grange.

Swiss Alp Grill (just north of Schulenburg) get's good reviews from friends and family members. They also own Chez (next to Whataburger) in Schulenburg, with the same compliments from family and friends.

Since I'm from Hallettsville we pretty much just eat at Benvenuto Italian Grill (a little pricey) and Jalisco's Cafe. Joe's Fried Chicken and Kountry Bakery also have good food.
