can you run on plane or is it idle only? i've heard both.

and is there any navigation obstructions to know about, i heard there's some rocks on a point but which point?

thanks for any info.

The point straight across from the ramp....and there are a few stumps.

I wouldn't run it until you have idled around first. To be honest you don't need to run out on plane. Drop the trolling motor and start fishing. Having said that....I always run it with no probs. I have seen countless others do so as well.

You can run on mill creek, just not very far to run to.

yes, but the information board near the ramp say run the boat at "prudent" speed.

there are some chuck rocks between the ramp pier and the adjacent pier.

when heading up lake the first point on your left is extremmely shallow and long. the creek that is across the lake from the ramp (to the left of the Dam) has a long shallow point with rocks too. the shallow side is on the right when going into the creek from the main lake.

Our club was there last saturday, it was veeerrryyy slow. no one felt a fish from 7 am to 10 am, so we loaded up and headed to Athens. the lake is very low, with little shoreline cover in the water. this was our clubs favorite lake, usually producing the yearly big bass, but since they killed the grass the lake has gone downhill.

If you run around that lake it shuts the fish down. Was there Wed and an idiot in a Tracker was running all over the lake on pad. It shut the bite off. Not that it was that great.

But him and his friend provided some great entertainment when they ran aground on a shallow hump in what looks like open water, we saw it coming from a distance and it was like a train wreck about to happen, just couldn't look away, then BAM!!! rolfmao

Not sure if that was ignorance or karma that caused him to hit that hump.....

both, thanks for all the info.

i've never fished it before and live close, was gonna go last sunday but didn't work out. if it's been fishing that bad should i go to fork instead. fork has just been tough on me lately while it seems guys are catching dd's everyday i've been catching dinks and zero's. it's funny i was catching them better than most from what i could gather a few weeks ago and now i've lost em, but hey i'm always game for fork.

so fork or first time at mill creek? i will definitely be throwing a jig as i'm committed to it in order to become better at it.

I fish both and if you want to "jig fish" I would go to Fork, not a lot of cover to fish a jig in MC ...

but if you do go to MC watch out for a few really shallow areas right now...

A black and blue jig has been a work horse at mill creek over the years. I did not hit the reeds along the dam or on the left and right hand banks last week, other boats were there but those are good areas to flip a jig into right now. up the lake there are a few lay downs and isolated wood that you might flip. one member had a decent prefishing trip on this type cover. it did not produce for me on tournment day.

when the lake is at normal pool it is a flipper's paridise. buck brush and willow trees and laydowns circle the entire lake.

They must have been running around in the second arm on the rightside of lake.

well, should've went to fork. absolutely nothing shallow, graphed tons of small fish in 8-10 ft all over the place, i assume these were crappie, perch and this yrs bass. couldn't find any structure or much depth for that matter. lake seemed relatively shallow and flat bottomed. usually i would think shallow in this situation, but there was little to no shallow cover still in the water as lake is down. i've heard so many good things about this lake that i was extremely disappointed. i know some will disagree but i won't be back til it's full pool and i can flip some shallow cover as i just couldn't find anything deeper to key on and the deepest water i found was 15 ft with no drops or structures to key on. not really that into searching a couple hundred acres for brushpiles. i'll be back at our little city lake for a few hours in the morning to see if i can get a couple on the jig bite.

that's a typical Mill Creek response, it's a tough little lake.

Last couple of trips out there for me have been tough too. That little lake gets it's share of pressure. If you like fishing for hours for a couple of bites, then I highly suggest going to Mill Creek!

I dont exaggerateI just remember BIG !!!

Go to the back in the creek there are stumps on the edge of the creek. You may have better luck there. There is a lot of brush on the main lake on the way to the back on your left hand side just before you go into the creek
