Not to many post about Whitney here on the forum.. enjoy my story

Four times this year I have fished Whitney and in spite of what I hear about the golden algae and the ensuing fish kills I still try the lake despite having caught no fish to speak of. This past weekend was no different. We got out on the water (first time with the 1198 side scan) and went looking for fish. After scanning a few miles of shoreline finding no bunched up fish and not finding any birds working we stopped by the dam and dropped slabs, all we managed to catch was a tangle full of rope someone had lost overboard.
So we decided to troll the hellpets along the flats. And I swear not 10 minutes after getting the rigs in the water... dammmnnnnnnn! this happened

And this fight continued.... "Move over! Hes coming back to the front!" was heard "Get the camera ready!" was heard "Son of a bit@h!" was exclaimed.
15 minutes later the fish was close to the boat.

"Gotta keep the line tight, up by the boat is where they come off." was the last thing I said as I looked upon this huge fish there in the water with a tiny pet spoon in the corner of its mouth. It was like she heard me.....she spit the spoon and returned to the deep.

I want to say the fish weighed over 20 lbs, it makes me feel better to lie to myself and say the fish weighed less.

There are big stripers in Whitney. That lake has had worse GA in the past years and the stripers survived. From what i have heard, this time GA was not as bad as it has been in the past, so the stripers must still be there.

I feel your frustration, bad. All I can say is keep working on learning the side imaging. It does help. Sometimes you won't see fish; sometimes you will.

this time of year, I would think you need to get away from the shoreline and be graphing the creek channels and drop-offs....find the baitfish and the gamefish will not be far behind

Whitney is still the dead sea every since the lake came up 16 feet in 10 days. And not 1 person can tell us why ,lot of people are telling you different reasons, but why did ALL the fish just stop biting? No birds to speak of,no sand bass schooling, even the guides stop taking people out.And there are more bait fish than I have ever seen on the lake.I have tried everything I have learned in 40 plus years to catch fish since the water coming up.Fish are there, all over the fish finders, they just flat want bite.It sucks to have a lake house there with a bass boat, and a fishing pontoon boat in a slip I pay for every month.I flat just gave up,and fish inside the marina @ Juniper cove, were you have a chance every once in a while LOL

I think Whitney is rebounding... we have caught fish nearly every trip the last 5 or 6 weeks... The boss had 5 black bass last week that went around 16 lbs.... largest were 4 1/2 and 5-10... Will be back on the water today...

The fish we have been catching are fat and feisty...

And, we have been enjoying having the lake to ourselves for the most part.... it has been great.
