Hello all, As most of you all know I recently went out on a tuna run, 36 hour trip and I had so much fun and needles to say im hooked on it now. I ask the question as to what the normal season is becouse me and my brother want to try and get on a 48 hour trip some time in mid jan after xmas is over with. I went out with Dolphin docks last time but im not so sure I want to do that again if I can help it. Is there any one company that just stands out as being one of the best in the port Aransas area or Galveston area That I can look into? Thank you all.

Mostly year round but some times are better than others. I've always had great luck in Jan or most of the winter months for that matter. Summer can slow it down a bit but it's also harder to find summer trips because that is snapper season, traditionaly the money fish for most party boats.
In Pt A, I like the Scat Cat. It's hard to beat it. In Galveston, The New Buccaneer and the Capt John are the tuna boats. In Freeport there is the Bluefin, which I have never fished. It is a smaller boat and a bit more expensive. It fishes 16 or 17 people. The Scat Cat fishes 24 on tuna trips, the Capt John fishes 40 and the New Buccaneer fishes 49 max. The NB has no bunks, so you have to sleep where ever, but tends to catch more YFT than the Capt John, which tends to concentrate on BFT

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but Deep Sea Headquarters out of Port A puts 15 fisherman on the boat for all tuna trips.

Glad you had a good trip bud. I've been following your tuna posts lately and kept hoping it would be a good trip. What all didja catch?
We tried to go just offshore when you first started talking about the tuna trips. Weather was terrible. We couldn't fish for trying to keep the boat maintained in a safe position. I still had fun and it was adventurous for sure.

I only manageged to catch 5 black fin tuna. The bite was slow and it took me all night to find the bait they would bite on and then it was time to head back in. I had a great time and looking to do it again soon.

Scott in my humble opinion the colder months bring more and bigger yft to the floaters. However year round you can snatch tuna ,like David said

been to falcon 8 or 9 times been out of freeport to cerveza rigs 6 or 7 times. i try and go at least once a month. but i can only fish weekends so its hard to catch good seas on sat. and sat. nite sometimes, like this weekend 4 to 5 on sat. nite im gonna prolly wait and see if next weekend is better. i agree with everyone the winter is better. last feb.at cerveza we caught 26 blackfins one nite just 2 of us fishing. but like i said if you are anyone wants to go looking like next weekend if seas are good im going the moon will be better next week also.

I'd love to go with you, Tuna and Amberjack are my favorites, Gas no problem, will take care of bait/drinks as well.
Let me know when your going out again. I've got a couple dozen of trolling and tuna jigs I'm dying to try out. I'll take you inshore with my new DLV Carolina Skiff too if you're interested. Got a single 115 but can cruise 50MPR.
I'm new to the area and just got my capt license, FYI.

For Tuna check out Underwater Expeditions, The Big E. They moved to La but the boat, and crew are the best out their. I fished with them when they where here.

Allan I don't believe it's the same capt and crew. At least part of the old crew is still in Freeport running other boats
