I get alot of questions at work about what " artificial " means i always tell them flies only an i guess lures for conventional tackle. If the guys from GRTU could PM me. Im a fly fisherman but i have heard some really good comments from customers asking about different baits that are made that are rubber or plastic but there too iffy. i always say if its iffy dont use it, but i have heard some good reasons to research it. i have looked on line an cant find much at all about regs on or in the trophy zone on the Guadalupe river, other then " artificial only ". If yall can help me help them that would be great thank you ahead of time smile

A good resource for that answer would be Chris at Living Waters Fly Shop.

No powerbait eggs, sammon eggs, articfially enhanced baits, cheese, marshmallows, live worms, or minnows.

Fishing is one thing i can't agree on but catching would be more of what i do.

Here's the quote from the TPWD Special Regulations about the Guadalupe"

In Comal County from the second bridge crossing on River Road upstream to the easternmost bridge crossing on FM Road 306, rainbow and brown trout may not be retained when taken by any method except artificial lures. Artificial lures cannot contain or have attached either whole or portions, living or dead, of organisms such as fish, crayfish, insects (grubs, larvae or adults) or worms, any other animal or vegetable material, or synthetic scented materials. This does not prohibit the use of artificial lures that contain components of hair or feathers.

Not true. There are no fly fishing only sections on any public waters in Texas, as far as I know. Lots of spin fishers fish the trophy section, with good luck. Only restriction is that if you take trout, it must be on artificials only, as described above.

Now how about the word "harvested"? Does that mean caught or kept? The TPWD regs say "all harvested trout...", which could imply only if you keep them, and that if you don't keep them it's ok to use other means. Not that using bait is going to leave many trout alive to release. There's no reference to the term in the definitions so it seems like there's wiggle room for those who want to find it. Some state's regs say "angle for", which I think is the best wording since the obvious intention of angling is to catch something.

Windmill Lake in the LBJ National Grasslands is "fly fish only".

Preast that is a really good point as well. I started this post to do a little research to help others out, since i only uses flies. Now it has become quite a bit more then expected. I am now hoping this post will help us all help others on the river. I would love to hear the feed back about " Harvested fish " like you said caught or kept ??? Maybe we can get some other questions asked about the " Trophy Zone " on here asked as well so we can all better ourselves an others with the information provided...... i think i need to join GRTU as well

According to Ken Kurzawski, TPWD manager that handles all of their inland fisheries regulation changes, there are no public "fly fishing only" waters in Texas.
