Is there any benefit to getting a 2 piece rod vs 1? Seems like storage in tight places would favor the 2 piece but just don't know what the drawbacks are. Thanks as always!

I never liked the 2 pc rods BUT by accident I bought a 2 pc Penn Slammer and love it, its very easy to transport and I have caught some large fish with it, I used a 6/0 Senator and a AVET Pro 30wide both on it, #83 ray and 3 weeks ago #253 bull shark, I do like it, it will be the home for the AVET

Thats all I`ve ever had dam sure handy when it comes to storage would`nt think that much difference if any......

I never fish with 1 piece rod,just with 2-4 piece rod and i don't saw people around me catching more fish because ar fishing with one piece rod.

I have both 1 piece and 2 piece rods and don't notice much difference in how they fish. Plus the 2 piece rods are much easier to carry in a small car and I can keep them in the trunk out of view when I'm not in the car.

I hate 2 piece rods. The only one I have is for traveling/backpacking.

In my opinion, the more you take them apart and put them back together the weaker they hold. I had a bunch growing up, but as I got older I stopped buying them once storage became a non issue.

IMO the only benefit is they are easier to store. I much prefer one piece.

Each has their own time and place. If space is not an issue, i'll go with a one-piece, but I usually have a few two-piece combos in the back of the suv for a spur of the moment outing!

1 Piece is the way to go.

I am fishing just with 2-4 piece long rods(over 10") for over 15 years and never have problems and i was catching many big fish( fishing on the bank ) just with artificial,like this black drum catch on GULP MINNOW GRUB 3" chartreuse(C&R):

I find I usually end up buying 2 piece rods, I rarely if ever actually take them apart. I have a long bed Silverado so space is not an issue. I just look for the rod that I like the feel of the most regardless if it is one or multiple pieces. I did have one 2 piece rod that loosen up on the joint after about 5 years. It was a SUPER cheap combo my dad had bought, I think $15 for rod and reel. I just put some JB Weld in the joint, and presto, I have a 1 piece.

From my experience,

A 2-piece rod often misaligned after every 4-5 casts.
My son has a simple 2-piece UL spinning setup that does the same.


If you're often fishing with live/dead bait, a 2-piece shouldn't be a problem.

But if you often use artificials, you're going to have to keep checking the line guides.

I never have this problems and i am fishing with long spinning rods(over 10') just with artificial for 60 years.

That's my experince also, Adan. I'm always checking and readjusting the alignment with 2 piece rods instead of actually fishing. A 1 piece rod in the same quality range of multi piece rods will usually out fish the multiple piece rods. It's no knock on multi piece rods; it's just facts. The one piece rod will be more sensitive and translate a bite better with all other things being equal. I don't mind having a 2 piece rod too much when I'm fishing baits with trebles or blades or baits like that, but when it comes to feel and sensitivity, my choice is a one piece.
