Yesterday I went to choke and I saw a pretty good spot on the gps and I deceided to stop and fish it. I saw some brush, some fish and baitfish. I fished it for about 15 minutes with nothing. I was throwing a 6XD and I happened to get stuck on the brush. As I was trying to pull my plug out of the tree, a small bass came out of the water and so did my plug. I happened to looked down and the fish finder came alive and my very next cast I hooked a 6.65 bass.

So my question how do you get the school of bass going? Thanks and the information is very much appreciated!

A Hydrowave is suppose to do that. I have talked to several that it has worked for. I do not have one so I can't say.
It has always been my luck to catch one and pull two or three others off the spot chasing the one I caught and that is the end of it.

Sounds like you got em fired up for a minute or two. When your 6XD popped loose you fired the school up. If a small fish grabbed it as it popped loose then on the next cast you caught the 6.65 you had them going. There was most likely a school of good fish beside the brushpile. You may have never gotten bit had you not hit the cover.

After you landed the 6.65 what did you do? If you paused to weigh the fish & take pix and killed 15 minutes you may have missed what could have been the best day of your life on that spot. Sounds like you may have answered your own question but didn't realize what happened.

Many times on Fork I have pulled a fish to the boat and looked down to see others following it. When this happens you have to get a bait back in the water FAST. If you pause you can miss the action. I keep the livewells full and ready in case this happens. If I catch a good fish off a spot I throw him in the box and get a bait back to the same spot ASAP. Most times you will catch multiple fish off one spot.

Of course I would never put a slot fish in the box.... LOL

Sounds like did a pretty good job. Anything fast and big will fire them up, but like Ken said sometimes you have to hit the spot just right to set them off.

I was told by a striper guide one time , once you have the first fish on let it swim around , it will send mixed signals that may start a feeding frenzy among the group .

What a great question. Ken A is dead on. 2 things
1. Hardest fish to catch is the first one
2. Key to cathing them is to CATCH them
That first fish that bites is what fires the school. They will actively chase the fish with the bait. This will make them go into what we refer to as a "feeding frenzy". Once you've got that first fish you have to pound their butts. Because I'd you don't....you start over and #1 applies again. Hardest fish to catch is the first one!

Thanks for the help guys! That is some pretty good information about putting the bass in the livewell and make another cast. Never thought about that.
