Trying to get up to Texoma on Wednesday w/ the old man. We have fished Texoma for a while, but have always pulled out boat in early Octoberish, so never fished this time of year before.

With the cooler weather, does fishing stay good for longer vs. summer when everything dies down by noonish?

Any insight on the best lures (we aren't planning on using shad)...it sounds like sassy shad is working well

Thanks in advance

November is a good month and the fish stay up longer. Get you some slabs along with the sassy shad. I like these slabs from http://www.moestackleshop.com/estore/category/3069

But you can use which ever you want. Look for the birds and you will find fish Good Luck thumb

I proved one thing today, any fool can catch good fish in November in Texoma. Birds everywhere. Your hardest decision is which set to get under.

Just as stated above. Birds=fish. All day long as JD said. Tip- shut down way way before you get to the birds, the schools of fish are very skittish as they have been bombarded by fisherman running up on plane right into them shutting them down. We had better luck finding our own school and approaching slowly. Good luck.

Not to thread-jack, but are these birds/fish close to shore or out a ways? Thanks!

Both...some days they will run shad right up along the bank..it's not predictable though...it literally can happen anywhere at anytime during the day...
There is no way to pattern where the birds will be working as that is all predicated on whe the shad and fish are at any given time..

thanks for all the good info in this thread

Is there any good top water action associated w/ the birds, or have the top water months passed?

Fish are coming up near the surface but not hitting top waters ...run swim baits under the surface

Jd would it still be easiest for a total noob like myself to catch live bait to try and catch them ? Im a moron when it comes to lure fishing but I will have shad anyway cause I wanna striper fish till I get bored with them then try for some blues.
