Fished the surf on Saturday to kind of pay hommage to my grampa. Past away on that day 6 years ago so I fish on this day every year to celebrate his passing. The man taught me to fish the midwest.
Anyhoo...
Caught -3 rat rads. Largest went 19.75". -about 50 whiting... kept 12 bulls in the 15-17 inch range and a few small ones for cut bait. -Pomatomus Saltatrix ( bluefish) caught with castnetted menhaden... my rod starting making cracking sounds.... light tackle.

Where is CR257L? Is it a county road?
A wonderful way to remember your grandfather.

Hey, Hopper, I can respect you fishing for your grandpa. My mom and dad passed away 5 years ago, and they both loved to fish. I fished occasionally with them. After they passed, I received all their fishing gear and got after it. It's the one thing that makes me feel close to them. I really helps.

257L is a kayak launch in between Surfside and SLP. That's where I launch for Drum Bay. Yup... me too. I have some of his gear. My uncle just passed also and I bring his rod with me as if I were to use it , but I don't. Weird, almost as if i bring it so that they are with me. Great way to remember the good times. Glad you're able to do that! Sure is sir...

Went back to the surf... same spot.
Fished there from 9am to noon. Pulled in some big black drum. kept 3 slots @ 20, 24 & 25.
Some big bull whiting out there taking my cut bait. Caught a few in the 15-17 inch range.
Left at noon and headed for Seawolf Park. skunked there so I left at 5pm. Tide was coiming in but no bites.... or yet. maybe after I left?
