The Lake is at 90% capacity of water. The topwater bite is just the best that it has ever been. The huge Bass are still coming on DD22 off secondary points and against the bluff walls. The large Yum Dinger on a carlo. rig is working good on steep shore lines with heavy cover.
I am ready to make a drive in trip anytime. It is just as expensive because they are not drive in friendly. They want to charge us the same amount as the fly boys to stay there; even though we do not need a guide or use their pongas. We do have the option though to leave if the fishing is not as good as Oviachic and move around to other lakes. Another half a day and we can be at El Salto.

I was there 3 or 4 years ago and had a long conversation with the owner of one of the lodges there. I had seen some funny stuff growing on the shores of the lake while utilizing the facilities. He said the Tilipia fishermen are harvesting alot more than Tilipia. Which made sense because when I went to shore their boat came close to shore and shined a light where I was. The lodge owner said they don't bother the growers and the growers don't bother them but I bet theres exceptions to the rule. Just thought anyone that goes to Bacarrac should know the real deal down there. Not trying to hurt the area or the lodges business. I had a great time there. The lodge was amazing.. Food was top notch... Service was outstanding we were woken up every morning by two cuties with coffee. The fishing was ok but not outstanding. Unless you were after numbers. I'm sure thats changed since I've been there.

You got the best shot at Double D's on El Salto.
El Salto is $1,295 for 3 days of fishing. You have to do your plane ticket which will run on the adv. around $1,000.

My drive in trip to Lake Oviachic is $3,000 for 2 fisherman. You get to have the front of a new 20 ft. Skeeter. Were gone for 10 days and fish for 5 days. We are catching 100 Bass per day with 50 over 5 lbs. per boat.
I have two openings for Feb.22.

Those Mexican lodges are bound to be hurting with all of the rough stuff going on in Mexico right now. I would like to do my part in keeping them open, love fishing down there.

Baccarac might be the most beautiful lake I have fished. And those coffee cuties ain't bad either..haha

It is so difficult to get a true up to date fishing report from down there. We may go in the spring, the fishing and the safety factor stars need to align.

Thanks Donald

If you don't want to drive, you can fly down there and we will be there to pick you up to fish out of our boats. It cost a little more but is worth it to be in a Skeeter for 3 to 5 days.
Oviachic is the ticket. I have never caught less than a 100 bass per day. All the other lakes is a hit and miss situation. I have never figured out why.
This is my thoughts on that. El Salto and all the southern lake seem to have schooling Bass that are always moving around looking for bait. When you can find them it is a blast and the chance of a DD is there.
At Lake Oviachic these Bass are very territorial. They are nesting Bass. That means there is one for every bush and there are so many they have to take turns spawning on those bushes. We catch spawning Bass from Dec. all the way through the end of May. The male Bass are 3 to 5 lbs. and the females are putting out eggs when they hit the deck of the boat. I have never been on a lake like this.

The lodges arn't hurting. The Dept. Of Tourism in Mexico is supplimenting with funs to keep everything safe. They get a big cut of everything that is going on money wise in Mexico. All the lodges have been upgraded with nicer facilities and security. Most are finced in with security guards and the military is always hanging around on the roads out to all these facilities.
I can speak only for Lake Oviachic on the funds given last year. The D.O.T gave $175k to upgrade the facility and help with the fingerling stocking program of Florida Bass. It doesn't get any better than that to keep them afloat and promote their fishing business not only to the US fisherman but to the Mexican Netters that are needing jobs.

i was in progresso, yucatan a few weeks ago and it was not bad at all. there is municipal police on most every corner and it gives you a since of security. whether their legit or crooked i don't know? but it makes you feel better. plus things are calming down a little bit doe that the cartel leaders are starting to fall.

I have taken many husband and wife trips down to Lake Oviachic. We fish for a couple of days with the wives then the owner's wives load them up in the suburban and take them to town to shop for the day and eat out for lunch at the best place in Obregon, Mx.. It is a great day for them and many will just stop fishing and want to go to the coast or back to town shoping every day. Angel and his family really cater to the wives because he knows they have the say so if you will be coming back or not.

Just Google Lake Baccarac Lodge. Terry Hollan the owner posts an accurate and honest fishing report every few days. The lake level at Baccarac is at about 65%. Having been there numerous times i believe it is still the best palce in Mexico to catch fish over 10lbs.
