Gotta hate when they go under and you can't see em and don't know when or where they are gonna pop up.

Its not about how many fish you catch or how big they are, its about the memories you make catching those fish.

As always, tight lines!

This past summer I had an 8 footer swim right behind my yak while I was fishing and it just kept on going...then went under...that's when I said maybe I should paddle downstream a bit. Early last year I got blown into some weeds and ran across a baby variety just watching me, it saw me before i saw him. It was so close I could have reached out and grabbed it...but I too was worried about where momma was so I continued on my way.....

I was a foot away from a alligator at a boatramp.

It was 2ft long and in a 5 gallon bucket.

Was caught in a castnet.

I grew up in Port Arthur and we had alligators everywhere. My parents lived there until last January, and there were at least 2 in the concrete drainage ditch behind their house (bass, too). We've been swimming several times and realized there was an alligator nearby and they never bothered us. Big ones, too. I've had them grab surface lures when I wasn't paying attention a few times. They never bothered us in the wild.

BUT, I worked for Fina for 2 years, and operations people there fed the gators in the canals that cut through the tank farm. We had spills in the canals a couple of times that we had to contain, and we would use the floating booms for the majority of the containment. We deployed the booms from jonboats, and the alligators wouldn't leave us alone. A switchman threw part of his sandwich in the water next to the boat I was in and a big gator hit the boat hard going after the food. Not fun at all. NEVER FEED THEM.

on our way back from rockport one yr...
we pull over to shocked shocked shocked shocked at a large gator that was on the rd just outside of fulton, tx. i ran to the truck n grab a tape measure. we stretched it out and saw it was over 11'. everyone else was pulling over too. They began asking if it was dead because it wasnt moving. laugh i told my son to step back and watch. then, i quickly grabbed his tail. it did NOT like me grabbing his tail!
it thrashed & snapped then dashed off the rd into the tall grass and muck.
sent everyone running! what a rush!

Only experience I have had with gators was when I was little. Me and my dad were bank fishing on his friend's private property. We found a big gator and I proceeded to shoot it with a BB gun about 100 times and it never moved. Then later and about a 1/4 mile down the creek we found a group of 1 foot babies just below a big culvert. My dad said he was going to reach down and catch one. So he proceeded to slowly creep down to the end of the culvert. Once he was right at the end there was a little tiny patch of grass about 6 inches high, and a copper head pops out of it and scares my dad to the point of jumping backwards. This scares the baby gators and they get out of there. So he pulls out his pistol and shoots the snake.

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is.

I've them on Caddo last Fall. Two different ones at different locations on the same afternoon. Just laying in shallow water not moving much. My wife didn't freak out like she said she probably would. It was a good 1st siting for both of us!
