Does anyone have experience with this river?
No fly shop anywhere near on the way except mountain hideaway in Lubbock. Will take some materials and vise just in case.
I am going to Ruidoso for Thanksgiving, which I feel is the only mountain town in NM without a consistent river.
I guess Santa Fe is only 5 hours away....

We had family friends who ran a small cabin for rent business in cloudcroft and he said the pecos was the closest decent trout fishing. So, 4 to 5 hours...
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

The Rio Penasco on Charlie Mulcock's ranch is a phenomenal spring fed fishery. Charlie is one of the nicest men you'll ever meet. The ranch has been in the Mulcock family for over 100 years. I fished there this past July and had 2 epic days with lots of rainbows caught on dry flies. This time of year, I'd probably target the big browns by stripping streamers or nymphing for the rainbows. Google Mulcock Ranch. Good luck. http://www.mulcockranch.com/Mulcock_Ranch/Welcome.html
