Scott, a lot depends on what baits and how you are fishing. How I learned on my first few trips was to watch and get with someone on your trip and watch how he sets up his rigs. You should have plenty of time on your way to your first spot to get your rigs set up...there should be someone on your trip who has a lot of experience on this type of fishing... good luck and tight lines :-)

Thank you Bill, I figured I could allways just ask the deck hands whats best, I mean they are the ones out there on a daily basis I guess. But I do want to learn what I can before I get there.

Thank you, ive got the knots down, Im just un sure of the best method of setting up my lurer, should I uses just the braid, or use the flouracarbon leader or go with the steel leader? Im not sure what the best setup is for targeting tuna with lures.

albrite the braid to floro and do a loop knot on lure if going with a long leader that you want to wind thru the eyes. lots of folks just use 1-1.5 ft of floro attached to a swivel then to your braid it's quick easy and effective. but yes use the floro to your lure.

Albright to flouro, then san diego jam knot to lure it works for me and have it tested
last year on a big tuna my shimano gosa 10k [censored] out on me about 45 min working it out we have to hand line fish thanks to Hyperman tried his best to help me out but main line broke at color it was a big fish but the knot and connection works, it caught 8o# and 60# tuna before it broke.

Kinda new at this offshore stuff but did a ton of research and asking around before my tuna trip last weekend.

I would look into the modified albright/alberto's knot to tie your braided to the flouro if you were planning on doing a long flouro leader(mine was 25ft using a wind-on).

I use the Paloar knot when I can for terminal connections and then a double san diego as backup.

No knot is the best knot. Use loop to loop instead, with a spliced loop for the leader and a uni/san diego jam for the terminal connection. If you have to tie a knot for your leader, the PR or one of its variants is best but a pain to tie. You probably won't have a use for steel when tuna fishing, use the fluoro
