Thanks Mike!
Were there any flyers in the water? Did anyone try live flyers?

Good flow of flyers- was worth trip to watch YFT work them- YFT came in light of boat chasing flyers-slamming them feet from boat- listen to this! Capt. Russel was trying to catch a flyer- threw cast net a one right by boat- just as net hits flyer a YFT slams the flyer- net catches YFT - Tuna blew a big hole in net in milli-seconds! YFT & cast net hit flyer same time- wow!

Yep ..... sounds like we might be heading straight to Diana. There are a number of bottom drop spots on the way there and back. Can't wait! Who wants to catch my AJ for me? LOL

Let me tell you, this was about the best trip I have ever been on, and I landed ONE tuna. That one was about 100#, and I would say it was average! I fished a shibuki with owner ST66 3/0 practically the whole time, just like always. I lost four monsters to pulled hooks, and another right at the gaff due to a leader parting. I had the 100# to the gaff in under 10 minutes. The others I had to color before loosing them in under 10 minutes, all about the same size. The very last cast I made, at 3am, I hooked a beast so big he almost spooled me TWICE, and then settled down at about 400ft and I could not move him. We had everyone pull in and tryed to chase him down, as he was starting to come up from the depths away from the boat. After about 45 minutes, we had him up and down again, and I was finally gaining some line back when the hooks pulled again. I was fishing 18# of drag, and as you get a lot of line out the drag increases quite a bit. And he did it twice. I cannot even imagine how big this fish was.
So why was this such a great trip with one tuna in the boat? Because the fish were there, biting and all huge. They were working in the lights non stop. It was unreal. I have only seen this once before, but the tuna were much smaller. 100# tuna were coming completely out of the water busting bait RIGHT NEXT TO THE BOAT!
Another thing, I tried fishing a rubber flying fish, but missed a lot of fish so went back to the shibuki (and lost more fish). The fish just couldn't seem to find the hooks in the flying fish. If you fish these, I would try rigging up with a huge treble or single stinger a few inches behind the fish.
You guys are going to have an epic trip.

YFT & cast net hit flyer same time- wow! I was ten yards away watching when this happened. It was unreal. I also had about a 10ft mako hit a blackfin right at the boat. That was really cool too.
