10/7/2012 South Jetty. I fished up one side and down the other with a gold rattle trap and a silver spoon, and caught squat. There were several large bull reds caught with cut crab as I was work my way around though.

I went to the packery channel 10/9/12 and caught undersized redfish all afternoon with GULP shrimp. Out of the 20-25 I caught there was only one slot sized. Was alot of fun but frustrating with the lack of size.

I will be spending the next 12 days in the area fishing daily, more to come. Keep the reports coming and I will do the same.

I'll be down at Port A this weekend as well. Planning on fishing on the bottom with shrimp and live and cut piggies in the surf and off the jetties. I've heard they are catching a lot of flounder and hopefully the reds will be running good now that the first good cold front has come down. There will be four of us in a big black dodge dually. If you see us, come say hello.

Fished the jetty all morning. One sheepshead. Lost alot of bait on the bottom tight line live piggies. Only one red caught I could see and that was on a crab.

I am going to try some 6/0 circles this time hoping that the smaller hook will help us from lossing so much live bait. The 8/0 never steered us wrong over the last few years though. I dunno. Will keep trying.

Good luck to those coming.

Ended up on the Port A Piers. Gafftops saved the day, catching 12 good sized ones on cut dead mullet.

Spent most of the day at the Port A South jetty. We saw a total of 3 reds pulled in two of which were bulls. We tried live mullet, Dead Mullet, Shrimp and 2 casts worth of crab. No reds. We did catch half a dozen large Mangrove/Grey Snappers.

Two men walked up about 20 minutes before we left and asked if we had any mullet. We gave them half a dozen and they caught one of the Bull reds we saw pulled out 10 minutes later, 20 yards away. had to laugh that one off.

Tonight we spent a few hours on the Park Pier in Port A a few croakers was it. With noone else doing anything on either side of us.

Not sure what is going on this week. Last week was gang busters.

Slayton,

PS
If you see two big boys carrying framed backpack milk crates full of gear. Stop us and tell us how to do it, this is the worst year we have had in the 10 years we have been coming down in October.

Caught a bunch of small flatheads off the Caldwell pier with squid. Then caught a Bonnethead Shark on squid out of nowhere. Nothing on the big rigs using cut bait. Heading to Bob Hall Pier tommorrow to try out our luck.

So little fish in the freezer, We will be taking a charter on Tue or Wed. Need to take something home.

We didn't do any better than you at Port A this past weekend Slayton. I think I remember seeing you guys on the jetty. We were the four guys that would leapfrog toward the end of the jetty as the day went along. Between us 4 all we caught was several croaker and perch. I did hook up with something quite large Friday morning that broke my 30 lb test off on the rocks. Mainly we just fed them lots of bait. We tried the Packery Channel jetties later that day and caught one rat red and more croaker. On Saturday we tried Charlie's pasture with no luck. We decided to change it up and drove over to the Copano Bay pier and caught a dozen little sand trout, an eel, a couple of small flatheads and one 5-6 lb gafftop. We finished Saturday at the Port A jetties and didn't catch a thing. The wind was intense and the fishing was super slow the entire time we were there. We're going to pay for an offshore trip next time.

The Port A jetty has seen a lot of fishing pressure in the last couple of years, this could be why you've been seeing a smaller return than usual.
