Went to Lake Fork Saturday. The wind was pretty severe. Wanted to fish main lake but couldn't stay on our spot. How do some of you fish in open water when it is extremely windy and stay on your spot? tks

On fork, if there are stumps near by you just tie up and cast to your spot. Otherwise it's just a battle to stay on track

I use brush grabbers. They work well in most conditions but yesterday would have been tough tying up to anything

We used 2 drift socks to crank a wind blown bluff today. The bluff runs north/south, so it made our drift real slow. Just used the trolling motor to keep the nose straight.

I know I usually fish faster baits in the wind because I seem to fish faster, Crank Baits, Jerk Baits and Spinner Baits, I tend to cover more water as well or expand the area I am fishing. I think the wind stirs stuff up and when stuff is stirred up I have always thought it expands the range on how the bass are moving.

you definitely need a powerful trolling motor first off. when using your troller to stay on a spot, you have to be able to fish and run the troller all at the same time. most of my fishing buddies can not do this. they are either fishing or running the troller. there have been some great alternatives listed here. when possible, try to tie to something. you can do a great job of fishing when ties off. anchors and wind socks are also great options. when fish will hit faster moving baits, use the wind to your advantage, get it at your back and use faster moving baits. if you hit a stretch where you are getting bit, idle back and make another pass. the main thing is to not let the wind intimidate you, or have negative thoughts about fishing in it. hope this helps.

IPilot MK Terrarova is an expensive option, but windy days is where it really shines. The Gen 2 is more responsive when normally trying to navigate the wood too. I like it so much, I think I would invest in an iPilot before getting a Talon.
