OK. These newer engines have a system that will not allow over trimming. It only goes so far and stops when at speed. I want to see if this can be bypassed somehow. My Z7 doesn't trim up enough at top end.

I was told by one dealer it is a preset limiter. I have been able to get it on plane when it is over trimed, kinda hard to get on plane but I wanted to test it. I got it on plane and once I got to going a certain speed, it lowered itself to the highest position allowed. I talked to Gary Pender at the Tracker dealer in Austin, He thinks it is the Hydraulics for the trim only come out so far and it is set up that at full extnesion, that is the full trim allowed. The tilt ram is not strong enough to hold the motor up when its pushing the boat pretty hard. So it pushes that ram back in until it hits the trim rams and stops.

BUT, when I did my trim test I dont think it was onto the tilt motor yet. You can hear the differene in the 2 motors and it was still on the trim motors. So I dont know if thats it.

I have thought about adjusting the trim sensor on the motor to fake the location and see if its electronic and uses the trim sensor to set the height. The dealer in New Braunfels said this would not work. But I havent been too impressed with those guys.

Penders right. You can shim the stops or have thicker stops made where the trim rods contact.

This or tha little extender pads (some on ebay tha other day) are tha only way. Like Gary said. Its all hydraulic. You can't "trick" it. If tha trim rods arn't extending all tha way its got a hyd. problem....

We are installing a 10" jack plate on it next week and that will change the balance center of the boat to the rear more. Should help get the boat out of the water and if it needs more I will add the wedge.

As for the rams being the issue, I am going to test this on Sunday. I do not believe its on the tilt ram and drops back down. You can always tell the difference in sound when it goes from trim ram to tilt ram. And I am not that far up to hear that difference. So I am going to run it WOT as it is and then adjust the sensor to lower the gauge position and see if it will continue to trim up to mid point on the guage. If this works then the guage is the limiter which stops it from over trimming.

The plate is on and I had time to get out yesterday. I had done a couple of tests to see what limits the trim rom over trimming. Originally it would trim to the middle line on the trim guage but there was still more to go on the dual trim rams. So I adjusted the trim sensor so that when the trim rams were fully extended the guage would be reading exactly on the middle line. Now it will trim to the middle of the 1/4 and 1/2 line on the guage. So the engine is not trimin to full extension on the 2 trim rams. Something is limiting the trim. I thought it would be the guage. So I am going to use washers to move the small buttons that these rams sit on out towards the boat which will add mroe trim for me. I might only get 3/16" on them but I will see what it does.

Ok, here are some numbers. With 3/4 full gas tank.

Without jack plate.
Empty and 1 person 60 mph
Tourney loaded with full livewell. 55mph

With 10" jackplate
Empty with 1 person 64+
Tourney loaded empty livewell 62.9
Tourney loaded full livewell 61.8

Also with this plate it gained 100 rpm on the engine. It now is 5850..
Water pressure it good at about 20 psi at WOT. It will start to drop in a turn to about 10 minimun. If it starts walking it will bounce a little down to about 15. So I dont think I can move the engine up any farther.

Empty it does start to walk at 61-62 and thats why I dont get it over 63-64
Loaded the walk is much less. It barely tries and is easily driven.
Also with this new plate it gets on plane faster than ever.

So, I am very happy with this plate.I might get the prop worked now and gain another 2 mph, maybe 3.

Thanks TLW. I'll be looking at these tomorrow at BPS in San Antonio if they stock them.
