HA! You know I had to do it!!!!!!!

Crappie Catching 101:

Step 1.
It was all about the presentation.

Step 2.
Thump.

Step 3.
Set the hook.

Step 4.
Get the net.

The bite this weekend was slow and the fish didn’t want to participate much. The fish were easy to find but, getting them to bite was a struggle and frustrating to say the least. It took me for what seemed forever to figure out how to get them to bite. I struggle at catching suspended crappie and don’t have enough confidence catching these fish with any consistency. The presentation that worked for me, was raise your rod tip up 3 to 6 feet and let it fall at a fast pace, at times jerk it, then let it pause, bounce up and down on limbs or anything you did as a kid that you weren’t suppose to do when crappie fishing with your dad, crazy darn fish. All reaction bites till around 2:00 or 3:00 each day, then the bite seemed to more of a feeding pattern. I fished that brushy tree on the drop for hours trying to get one of the 4 or 5 big fish to bite, that I could see on the graph. I got lucky and coaxed a 2.33 pounder into biting, the others wouldn't play! The fish that were on structure laying flat on the bottom were caught easily, so I started targeting small logs, limbs, rocks or anything small on the bottom in 10 to 17 FOW that was holding fish, mostly on points or a steep bank. The black crappie on points that were in 10 to 13 FOW seemed to have a bad attitude and would absolutely knock the fire out of it. The biggest Black Crappie was a 1.61. I did fish one brush pile in 17 FOW that produced well. The total boated was 54 keepers with a 2.33, 2.24, and 1.91 with close to half of them over 1.5 pounds. I hope the fall bite improves soon.

PS. Lane,
I would get the [censored] scared out of me when, those black crappies would hit that Purple and Chartreuse; I swear they were on dope!

You need a new camera. Your lens seems to be scratched right around the shore line area. How we gonna know where you're fishing. rolfmao

Great post, H&F. Thanks for the info. Proves they're there but not always willing. Also proves those big ones economize their energy to hit what goes in front of them. They get that big, they must think they're bass or sumpn. Nice touch with the shoreline redaction.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Red, that's not a scratch on the camera lens. That's a guy in a jet boat throwing a rooster tail.
