I am taking my family on a weekend trip and we are camping at Caddo Lake State Park. We will be bank fishing and I was considering my best plan of action. Crappie? Bass? I was thinking sunfish then catfish with cut bait. Never been there and any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I stayed there a couple of summers ago with our RV. Didn't do any bank fishing but saw some doing it and the kids tried with no luck. The park was nice but there wasn't much to do there with the kids. It was also very hot and humidagain it was June. Take the bicycles if you can the kids can do some riding around. They have a peer you can fish off but didn't see anyone doing that there. They did have some canoes you can rent to check out the area near the peer. Also outside the park is a gas station that has some basic items and worms for fishing. The boys would ride up and get stuff from there for something to do. We hired a guide out of Johnsons Creek, Uncertain Tx and fished for some redears (species of the sunfish) that was fun but I wished we had taken the kids we thought we were going bass fishing and was very surprised when we paid to go perch fishing. The guide also took us on a touir of the lake which was very nice. He used a special boat and was able to take us into some tight places. Also at that place we did see some people fishing off their dock and doing good catching those redears. They also have worms and some drinks there. Cant think of anything else unless you have some other questions? Good luck!

get in the car and drive the short distance to Johnsons Ranch. Covered dock to fish from, bait for sale, picnic tables, etc. We've caught crappie, panfish, bass and even grinnel from there.

DON'T LITTER!

We had a great time at Caddo Lake State Park! I did not take the trip over to Johnsons Ranch only because I found fish at the state park. Rented a canoe in the morning and found crappie in the struture along the river banks. I used minnows but did see others have success jigging under cigar floats about 10 inches deep. I scouted the bank fishing which is only available near the boat ramp and found the guys there were having very limited success fishing for crappie and sunfish. A young lady was proud of her stringer of 2 small catfish and 2 gaspergou caught on night crawlers on the bottom. Raised her stringer with a big smile and said Dinner! I went back out in the canoe in the afternoon hunting catfish this time with cut bait(sunfish caught earlier)and Danny Kings punch bait. Surprisingly to me the punch bait was more successful. I caught 3 keepers in about an hour ang gave them to a bank fisherman I befriended earlier. Overall this was a great family outing with good fishing to boot.
