Good news and bad news. Good news: recent surveys found more fish than expected. Bad news: that isn't necessarily saying a lot. Here's what the park manager had to say about the condition of the lake and fishing outlook. http://www.lsonews.com/fishing-news/2501-john-keith

Would like to see the lake recover. I dont know of too many lakes where you could catch so many nice bass and then some bonus redfish in the mix. Cool place to fish.

All they have too do to stop the fish kills is start the pump from the river back up....but i think there is some water rights or some BS keeping them from it.

All they have too do to stop the fish kills is start the pump from the river back up....but i think there is some water rights or some BS keeping them from it. The problem is the exact opposite, they have to pump too much Trinity River in. The various upstream city legally TREATED waste water still contains Nitrogen and Phosphates that excessly fertilize the phytoplankton growth beyond what the lake can sustain in the first late summer sun light. When that excess population dies that decaying mass eats ALL the dissolved oxygen for a time. The fish in that lake region sufficate from that low DO. Possible solutions are find another water source (Kleinart's hurricane wish), treat the Trinity Water before placing it in the lake, purge the excess phytoplankton rich lake water over the dam while adding even more Trinity water, or adding aeration equipment that can be turned on when DO drops due to a major Phytoplankton die off. But all these alternatives include forcing the power company to replace the $6 million in fish stock killed by their inept lake management practices, an TPWD recommence lake stockings.

Always thought an areator like they have on Cleburne, Grapevine, Ray Hubbard...would be a possible inexpensive fix...if the problem is infact what is usually the proble with large fish kills(especially on the Trinity River itself) and thats low levels of dissolved oxygen in the water.

I gave up on Fairfield 8 years ago. Shame too cause I used to catch some nice reds there.
