I was using a 7ft crappie max rod a bass pro tinylight reel with 10 lb braid ( i know overkill but i hate to hang up lures) and a small slip bobber ( i assume those are the ones that slide up till they hit a preset bead) I got a few bites today where my bobber was compleatly dragged down but was never able to set the hook . I just dont know how to work this setup any advice would be appreciated. oh the bait was ripple shad by berkley on a 1/16 unpainted jig head.

that line might be just a tad thick, heavy and not very sensitive. To me the "feel" on the line is everything! And with a more limber line, a hookset on a submerged slip bobber is much easier due to the flexibility of light mono. it snaps instantly! Makes a difference to me, although i may be whistling in the wind. But i don't think so. I do pretty good with a bobber/jig setup.

I use 10 ft. B&M rods with 8lb. Mr. Crappie or viscous line in HI VIS.

May not be the setup. Small fish biting on a jig can pull the bobber down and not have the hook. Also, were you going for a bass fisherman big hookset? When I get slow, drag the bobber down bites and miss them more than a couple of times I ease up on the hookset and just lift up slowly until I get good resistance. I took some getting used to on the difference between the feel of mono and braid. I switched back to mono but have friends who use the same setup as you with good results.

2 - 8' Pro Angler rod's, 1 with 8# Sufix Siege Neon Tangerine and 1 with 6# Sufix Siege Neon Tangerine. I rarely use a bobber except in the Spring, I mostly tight-line (vertical jig) 1/8oz jig on the 8# setup and 1/16oz on the 6#. Like Lovfldx said, the feel is everything and I can't seem to feel anything when bobber fishin. But that's just me.

I use a 7ft when casting roadrunners and such, vertical fishing or fishing in shallow water casting jig/bobber but i use a fixed cigar bobber not a slip bobber. I use a 9ft when casting further out and fishing deeper water with jig.bobber again fixed bobber. I used to use braid and loved it and had no problems with fishing the jib/bobber and dont believe in the flouro over hi viz i dont think it makes a difference on a bite but thats me. Ive lost some huge crappie and bass cause of the mono i now use so probably go back to braid. Plus a steady pull will normally get your jig back where you will lose a lot of jigs with mono. The braid i always used was fireline 10lb. This of course is my opinion and what i use.

Rudy This! When it comes to bank fishing Rudy is the man! I have braid setup on a couple of my 7'fts i use for bank brushpiles cause i hate getting hung too. Every no and again though it seems like a slip bobber gets put on it and i'm chunking it out to stumps. I miss more fish with that braid than i do with 6# mr crappie. My hookset has to change considerably whith the braid. As was said, you can't do a real hookset because there is no give in braid. Just pick it up and a steady smooth pull to resistance. I much prefer the light mono where i can rush the hookset as soon as i see the bugger getting away.
