The Academy H2O express composite crankin rod is great if you don't want to spend a lot. It is 7' and has great feel with good components. Great deal at only $59!

Depends on budget...but the G Loomis CBR 845 is a great cranking (and topwater, etc.) stick.

Okuma EVX Glass rod. I personally have not lost many fish from thowing the hooks on this rod. Great choice.

Look at some of the all fiberglass versions or some of the composites where they mix graphite. Some people are against fiberglass but boy do they give a crank bait some action. It's nice to have some extra length for greater distance and a little more action but not necessary.
