Never done this before and I am sure it is over due. Should I get the whole kit or just the impeller its self? Watched a youtube video of a guy doing a 50 yammy di not seem......to har? Said he could not get the key that holds impeller in place out so he just replaced the plastic impeller? Any advice/links/thoughts appreciated.

if it's been awhile, you may be better off getting the whole kit.
sometimes the "cup" and the steel plate get's grooves wore into it from debris.

yep. every year in trashy or salty water, and every other year in fairly clean water. that's just a rule of thumb. alot of serious fisherman change it every year when they change lower unit lube, etc.
