not a scar...yet but I always get a big bruise on my left ribs after a hard day of fishing.

You need a built in shock absorber like me it is called over weight.

Hey Jersey, when you have a weak hookset like me you don't injure yourself. Sidney. When I'm your age ill be way dead. Those fish we were on a few years ago you didn't need a hook set... One of the greatest days of my life...

I leave the walker in the tow vehicle and use a cane to get to the boat. I usually set the rod butt in my gut as long as I have eaten recently so I don't accidentally start the digestive process on the rod butt. I still have several pistol grip rods in the inventory and they are all intact.
Long time bass fisherman, in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, West by God Virginia,Minnesota,Indiana,Canada and now my new home state of Texas.

These marks started at Fork when I first moved to Texas. I originally thought I had some type of fatal disease and was seriously worried. Since that time the scars have dramatically increased thanks to a once special lake and have never disappeared.
You can thank SAL for that!

Hmmm.. I must be doing something wrong.. Or you guys are doing something wrong.. The end of the rod never gets to my belly or ribs when I set the hook.. Im just using my hands.. Are you technically supposed to set the hook with the rod in your gut ?

Every time I go to Falcon I come back with a few more scars on my left ribs. Not to mention I cant hold anything in my hands for a couple weeks.

More of a permanent callused area. It bruises up some when things get interesting, especially on my annual muskie trip.
