i dont want to spend a small fortune but what are good trolling batteries on a budget?

Go with the stowaways from academy. That was the best deal I found recently when I had to buy new ones.

Wal-mart. A lot of guys love them because of the abundance of available stores if something goes wrong while you are out of town.

Everstarts are what I recommend.  Tried Optima's but I haven't had very good service out of them since they started making them outside of the US.  BigDozer66

I like the Academy ones. You get a year warranty. with the price, if they last that long you got your money out of them.

I use Walmart Everstarts and replace them every 3 years.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

Trojans $165 each, have 3 for trolling and going on 5 years.
monthly maintenace by adding distilled water.
$165x3=495
$495/60 months = $8.25/mo, good in my book.

Trojans are the best I have ever used and there isn't a close second. I run SCS225 batteries.
