Between myself and my son we have about 14 between the two of us in the boat ( 2 rod lockers ) but typically 3 on the deck for each of us.

I have 10 all rigged with different things, no time for changing lures when there are fish to catch!

Would a serious golfer show up to the course with a driver and a putter? I take all my rods when I go out, some may never leave the rod locker, but I will have the right rod if I need it. Thats always been my opinion on the subject.

I only try to catch one fish at a time, so I only take one rod. I used to take three, but found I only used one, so why carry more.

A rod box full; probably about a dozen, and I usually never use at best three of them......so I could get by on 3.......

Every time I take less rods I find out that having the extra rods would have made my day better. You blow up a spool on a baitcaster and its easier to pick up a different rod than picking it out on the water. I don't get to fish multiple days much so I'm not so dialed in that I only need 1 or 2 rods either.

Or, take just one worm rod and it is a G Loomis and breaks on hook set!
Bass fishing I take ...
G Loomis worm rod Dobyns worm rod (with different bait tied on) Jig rod crank bait rod Sometimes I take my big swimbait rod depending on lake
When crappie fishing I take ... 2 - 7' ML rods with baitcaster reels and 10# line 1 flea flicker UL with 6# line Sometimes I take my 12' crappie rod with a Mitchel 300UL reel
Catfishing in a lake
2 - 7' Shakespeare Ugly Stik Catfish Casting Rods with Shimano 300TE reels and 30# big game line 1 - 7' MH rod with Quantum Smoke reel and 15# big game line (for dinks)
Catfishing in the Trinity River
2 - 6'6" Berkley Big Game casting rods with Shimano 400B reels and 40# big game line. 1 - 7' MH rod with Quantum Smoke reel and 15# big game line (for dinks)
When I fish for any other fish, the lake and species decide what I take.
