i am going to Grand Isle,La with a group that only fishes for bull reds. I would like to catch some flounder, specs, and smaller reds also. After much reading here I bought some gulp shrimp to use and some jig heads to bottom fish for flounder. I also bought popping corks for specks. That type of hooks and size would you recommend for use with the popping corks and gulp 3" shrimp in new penny color? Also how deep below popping cork. Would small mullet and pinfish work under popping cork with circle hooks?
I'm a bass fisherman that needs help in saltwater, please.

i use my popping corks with about 18" to the hook. I use a 3/0 are 4/0 khale hook.

Do you hook the gulp shrimp on khale hook by treading it through the body or just hook in the body?

You are heading for my old stomping grounds in Grand isle. My family and I had a camp there for over 30 years until katrina took it out. Use that Gulp and bounce it on the bottom w/ an 1/8 oz jighead. you'll pobably hook up w/ flounder, reds and maybe a few trout. That's how i use Gulp in the marsh this time of year. The bulls also should be running. If you have some Zoom flukes, try those also on a jighead bouncing it on the bottom. Killer little bait. TTF Killer Flats minnows in avocaddo w/ chartreuse tails and white w/ red tail are good.Good luck in the Sportsman's Paradise!

I use 1/0 to 3/0 circle hooks. I hook through the body about midway. Small fish will nibble the tail and head off but keep fishing. Something bigger will come along to take the body.

I use a 4/0 treble hook and hook it threw the head like a regular shrimp. you want the action of the soft plastic if you are using a popping cork.
