Doug, I added two electrical chokes that I bought at Radio Shack for $9.00 and it fixed my TM interference on my HB 596 DI HD. Why didnt HB think of this? I rewired and grounded everything twice if not three times, nothing helped. I hope this will help others. I know its a TM problem and not a HB problem. This is in no way meant to be negative towards HB, they have a great product and I am a 100% satisfied customer.

That round circle in the power cable is a choke on the power cable. They also build the TMC1 which is a Trolling Motor Choke that kills RF/Electrical noise. Depends on where it is entering the system. HB has solutions and is best to work with Customer Service to help. What works on one might not work on another system. Thanks for sharing it may help someone else.

Been running my 798ci for 6 mos now and am just tickled with it but have a few questions.
The di is not very sensitive........am i correct in that I need to increase si sensitivity to increase di sensitivity. Was thinking of doing this anyways.
what do people do with the humminbird pc program other than rename points and such.....i do this in the unit menu??
how do you post pics here so I can get any recommendations from you?
For all the questions about interference on this forum....i split a garden hose and put my transducer cable in it once the cable was in the boat and taped it up....cleared it right up.
Thanks.....James

Have you looked at all the menu items? There is a DI sensitivity setting. Typically a setting that is 2 numbers higher than the SI sensitivity setting works well. Are you keeping the unit software up to date? Which one of the 798ci units do you have?: 798ci SI 798ci HD SI You can manage your waypoints with HumminbirdPC just like on the unit. Also PC will give you a program to save your data in case you have unit issues. To post pictures, use a host site like Photobucket and include the link to the picture in your message text.

Hey guys, can someone help me with this. This is my first boat - have read thru and need some clairity in more ways than one. Thanks in advance for your assistance. I currently have a 587 di unit with transducer mounted to the transom. Here is the screen shot of the transducer mount With factory settings running the outboard at 2 to 6 mph - I get this kind of interferance, at least I believe it is interferance, I am thinking prop wash ? Notice the red and blue fuzz from the surface down to about 8 ft. The transducer is mounted only 4 to 6 inches from the side of the outboard. Is this a cause for the... what I want to call surface clutter ? When the outboard is not running the screen clears ? Electrical interference ? Also when I have the boat on plane the Humminbird fails to read - however the dink Lowrance that came with the boat still reads and its transducer is in similar location mounted on the opposite side of the transom. I purchased an 1198 and plan on installing it this week. Where on the back of my boat should I mount the transducer ? Can I use the same mount that the 587 uses ? Thanks again. I spent all my pennies on the SI unit and am going to attempt the installation myself just trying to get it right the first time...

What brand/model boat do you have?
NO, the Side Imaging transducer for the 1198c SI will not fit the same mount as the DI transducer you have.

So are you saying I need to mount the transducer for the 1198 C SI futher away from the motor ? I read the transducer mounting guide from Humminbirds website and it says I need to be 15 inches away from prop. If I do that I will be mounting either on top of trailer running boards or futher right of the prop ?

I have two 597ciHDDi and when I get all of the settings like I want them I have turned off the TEMP display,,,,and I can't seem to find the menu to turn it back on. Restore Defaults turns it back on but deep sixes my settings.
Where is the temp switch in what menu.
Thanks.

The announcement at ICAST stated the price will be the same MSRP as the present models. Check with a marine electronics dealer for their pricing.

Thanks. I tried to find TEMP on my unit in the house with a battery connector for power only (sonar is on the boat). TEMP does not show. I looked in the manual and it states it is auto displayed on several of the views. I came to the conclusion that if I don't have the sonar plugged in, TEMP won't show. It's too late tonight to test it plus I don't want to have to uncover the boat. If you didn't have sonar connected, try it on your boat. I believe TEMP should display whether the ducer is in/out of water. Jimmy

Your correct it has to have a transducer or auxillary temp probe plugged in to get temp readings. If it doesn't sense the Temp Probe it will not operate that feature until it does. Plug it into the transducer and see what happens - should get temp readings then.

I have a question on my 898 HB SI. The right side of my screen goes dark, randomly from area to area. I have to change my setting from area to area. I know what shooting down hill into deeper water looks like. (This is not the issue.) I keep my unit set on the right side SI. My transducer is mounted correctly. In water over 20 feet deep, I get a much darker picture and not much detail in some areas. Boat speed is 3 MPH or less when SI. I have tried and tweaked every color pallet and seem to get the most detailed pictures with amber 2 with the sensitivity set on 13. (When working correctly.) I have to increase the sensitivity up to 17 when the right side goes dark; this makes the left side hot or bright. The settings shown in the picture is the best image that I could get when the right side goes dark. (This picture was taken in a flat and is not a drop off.) Is this normal?
