The difference Scott is that Hydrilla happened by accident and the Tilapia were brought in intentionally. Also I have seen many native vegetation types live in harmony with hydrilla.

Also I have seen many native vegetation types live in harmony with hydrilla. wouldn't that make it worse that it accidentally got here. Kinda like the Asian silver carp on the Mississippi river? Here in Central Texas we have tons of places with Tilapia and they are a benefit to the fisheries. The common carp was also introduced back the 1800 by the US govermentdue to overfishing of all the natural waterways and a viable food source was needed and are now considered naturalized species here in Texas. Hydrilla on the other hand can be as destructive as Giant Salvina and was released by aquarium hobbyist just like the plecostomus that is multiplying on the Guadalupe river chain.

Hydrilla is the only vegetation growing deeper than 5' in Joe Pool. It is not choking out any of the non-existent native plants that I can tell because there aren't any, except pondweed in 2' of water, and pondweed seems to tolerate the hydrilla. Invasive species or not, in my opinion it is beneficial on this lake. The cedar trees that cover up the landscape in this area are non-native invasive species. But if we got rid of them we would have to change the name of the town and the state park.
Joe Pool lake also has an abundance of carp.

I call b.s. Put a picture of the bait you used and a description of how you worked it and I will consider believing you. Um, also the depth.
