I have a 1994 stratos 285 pro xl with an evenrude 150 on it. steering is stiff I unattached it from the motor and the motor turns freely. it has a dual cable setup and i notice the threaded tube that one of the cables goes through is bent and needs to be replaced. I purchased the new tube but I dont have the equipment to hang the engine inorder to change. Does anyone have a recommondation that is not going to break the bank. Boat is in the saginaw area.
Thanks, Shayne.

should be just 4 screws on the tube, take out the cable then replace the tube/reinstall cable.

Since tha cable is to tight to pull with it mounted your best bet is renting a motor hoist. You "might" be able ta pull tha tube, cable and all but will be kinda tough ta do that way. Might test your patience!!! Especially puttin' it back.....

do they make a special wrench in order to take those screws out because i have every wrench for repairs to a car and they will fit on the boly but you dont have any clearance to turn it.

Just split the aluminum tube that is stuck on the cable. Use a hawk saw, or a cut off wheel in a electric drill. You sure dont need to remove the engine thats for sure. That tube is aluminum, it will cut easly. The cut off wheel and atachment for the drill is at home depot or any hardware store for under 20.00. Have any questions call me. 281-312-9856 Cary
