Hey guys Im just sitting here wondering what to do with my catch, if I catch any thing at all when I go on my trip here soon. Do most of you guys just pay to have you catch cleaned or do you do it yourself?

Yea, I clean my own too. Its kind of part of the ritual, ya know?
Most of the charters I went on in FL. the first mate cleaned them for free, they were more than happy to show you a few of their tricks in the process. We usually gave him a good tip though.
I have gotten pretty good at carving out bigger fish, although I am definitely out of practice, now.

Ive been thinking of doing my own this trip coming up, I can handle the smaller fish its the big boys that have me concerned. I dont want to destroy a good catch. Ive been watching a few videos on youtube on how to clean a tuna, I think I need to have my knives sharpend.

Just depends. If I'm on a do it yourself trip, I will obviously clean them. If it's a guided trip from a lodge, I will gladly let them clean the fish while I shower and enjoy a beer. I remember many years ago when we returned to the dock in Louisana with 100 specs plus redfish, the cost to clean them was about $15 per person for our group. In my estimation, it was a bargain.

It cost .49C a lb to clean the last fish back in Aug, Im just worreid that if I catch a few big fish on my tuna trip coming up it could get costly to have them cleaned. If I only had one fish or so then id just pay to have it done but with many fish I might need to attempt it myself.

Depends on how tired you are. Also, in Port A you have to take your fish to the other side of the marina to the small fish cleaning place, but you have to go over there for shrimp anyway, so I guess that doesn't matter

Big fish can be easier to clean than smaller ones, especially yellowfin tuna. You can cut along the line of the ribcage etc rather than having to cut through bone.

I always clean my own fish but last friday after 12 hours on the boat it was a bargain to let them clean the fish for 40 cents a pound

You catch 'em, you clean 'em. That's what granpa always said!! Worked for me...I learned that way to do it myself and now do a much better job than most.

I clean the little ones and take the reds and drum to a local You Buy, We Fry shop and the guy has never charged me more than 7 bucks no matter how large the fish or how many....though I have never brought in more that three drum/reds
