Why would disabled American veterans not be allowed to enter?

If you are a Wounded Warrior or Disabled Vet and require special assistance please explain the type of assistance needed.

This is the only requirement that I found on the On-Line Registration for Fishing For Freedom 2012. Hope this helps

Disabled Vets are welcome. As stated above the only thing is, if you have special needs you will need to let them know when you register.

My point was this; in the section Participants & Eligibility it says EVERYONE over 18 years old, however each team must consist of an ACTIVE or RETIRED veteran. Also in the first paragraph it says will host soldiers, both active and retired in a free bass tournament. So yes I understand a DAV can fish so long as their is a retired or active military person on the team. Doesn't seem like a DAV can sign up for the event as a veteran.

Two things to note, first, I am a disabled veteran, served ten years in the Marines and was honorably discharged, not medically retired.
Second, I am not interested in fishing this tournament, originally I was interested in bringing my boat and hosting a veteran.

I could be reading this all wrong, but it seems the DAV is being left out of the context of a VETERAN.

Much respect to those hosting and sponsoring this event, just seems like the rules should be modified to me. Best of luck to you all.

Gary

I believe they would fall under the terms of retired. I wouldn't think they would differentiate or single out somebody as to whether or not they were listed as a disabled veteran or not... Just like the VFW isn't the DVFW...

Retired is retired, not disabled. It would not be singling out anyone. If your point held water why not say it is open to all honorably discharged veterans?? Why isolate two groups?? Your point of the VFW vs. the DVFW??? Really??? Veterans of Foreign Wars, not Active Duty or Retired Veterans of Foreign Wars. Not a very good point you tried to make IMHO.

I was in the Marine Corps for 4 years. I was honorably discharged in 1971. I guess that would not be retired since I did not stay in long enough to draw a retirement check. Yes/NO ? Also, I was recently declared disabled by the V.A. for PTSD and hearing loss. Would I be able to bring my boat and take a vet fishing, disabled or retired. I am far from a pro but have fished all my life. Never on Belton lake though.
Thanks

Anyone that has a boat that is willing to take an active duty Soldier out is eligible to fish this tournament. There are no requirements as long as you have a boat. You must be an active duty Soldier to sign up as a coangler.

Yes, you can most certainly take your boat and host an ACTIVE or RETIRED veteran for the tourney. You just can not sign up to fish on a host boat because you did not retire and are no longer active.

You do not have to be ACTIVE, you can be RETIRED also.

Ok thanks for the clarification. I will not be able to do the tourny this year due to back problems ( again ) but at least I know now that I can fish it in the future. Sounds like a great time and the best cause I know. Take care of those defend our country. They are the reason we ar still free and will remain that way forever.
