Caught another Redfish...25" on fishbites today fishing right off the parking lot near the statue!! The sky looked 'iffy' so I figured if it did rain, I wouldn't have far to go to keep dry. Caught it on my third cast!

Just a quick report for today, Oct. 18. The parking lot was full and the jetty was packed with people hoping to catch the Big One, casting on the surf and channel sides only to bring in little Mangrove Snappers, small Jack Cravelle, tiny Pompanos and nice sized Whitings. But then again most of the people there went home without! I did get a report of a slot Redfish heading home with a fisherman and some quite large Mangrove Snappers were taken home by another fellow also. Both fishermen came from way out on the end of the Jetty. The water was clear and waveless on the surf side but on the channel side it was muddied and whitecapped. The wind blew all day. I left around 3:00

The parking lot was FULL and since it was Sunday, I decided to just cast my line off the rocks in front of where I parked my car. The fish did not let me down! Caught smallish 10"-12" Whiting and small Mangrove Snappers about the size of your hand using shrimp flavored FishBites. I gave away what I had kept to the people to my right before heading home. There were many many people fishing on both sides of the Jetty. I was glad I did not trudge on out there on a Sunday. I like to leave the space to tourists.

Went earlier today and the only fish biting were small Jack Cravelle, small Whiting and small Mangrove Snappers. I was told that before I got there there were some small redfish that were caught, but none in the slot range. The wind was really bad and blowing hard from the south east. The water was choppy and the wave swells would break on both sides of the Jetty and the spray would knock people's tackle and etc. into the water on the surf side. There were some bigger waves that came from the channel side that would crash into the Jetty and saturate anyone nearby. It was not a fun day on the Jetty today. I left earlier than usual. You didn't miss anything if you stayed home today.

Anyone out there want to give their report for the Jetty...I've been a little under the weather and haven't got out to fish the past few days and won't until next week. So, please, give us your report of what's going on in my absence.

You shared your salted shrimp recipe with pferox and he shared it with me. A round about Thank You. It works well on squid also and catches a lot of fish.

Today was a beautiful day to be at the Jetty, but I didn't get there until after 1:00. Tide was coming in and there was lots of grass floating on the channel side which is the only side I fished. Actually didn't go all the way to the surf side, just stayed close to the parking lot. I was told Trout were being caught in the surf side close to the second gut and lots of Pompano were brought in farther up towards the end. A couple to my left were fishing the channel and the lady caught a 26" Redfish and offered it to us. We graciously accepted the wiggling gift. The gentleman said he'd not be able to go fishing alone anymore. I suppose that meant 'she's hooked'!!

I have been seeing sargassum on the outgoing tide and none on incoming tide up this way.
You didnt walk all the way to the end and still got one of the best fish of the day. Now, THAT is fishing.

Yeah, that's funny!! or rather Lucky to be fishing right next to someone who didn't want their Redfish! Having him for supper tonight. We didn't stay but 2 hours fishing. I won't be there again until Monday, I hope. Have lots of Doctor appointments until then.

I have my doc trained to encourage me to go fishing. It's beneficial for my overall health. It might help that I bring him candy bars as a bribe to getting fishing on the healthy list.
A local down at Matagorda gave me a 22" red few weeks ago. It matched the one I had caught that day.
