Love my hand control. I bolted my favorite Lay Z Boy chair to my 2012 Z521's front deck and the hand control makes things so comfortable for me.

I used to get really tired standing and rigging but now I can rig all sitting down with my hand control trolling motor.

Good luck! My partner has one on his boat and I feel like (and I'm sure look like) a fool up front slapping that thing when we use his boat.

I fished on my partner's boat last weekend (@Falcon, and the wind, crowdedness, and results were awful-terrible, BTW! There were 26 boats on the dam, good grief!).
Anyway, when I had to run the TM up front, while my partner had to change baits or re-rig, I had to basically stop fishing to steer the dang thing or change the speed. I hated it! I have always had a foot control and it is 2nd nature for me to steer it while I fish. My partner prefers his.
Different strokes for different folks!

I know this doesn't exactly follow the direction of your question but I thought about switching to hand control also. I was also worn out after standing on one foot all day. I decided on the M/K Terrova with i-pilot intead. Obviously it's completely up to you but trust me, it's worth at least taking a look at. You get all the same benefits of hand control, plus you get to keep your weight on both feet most of the time. Not to mention the spot lock feature.

I went to a hand control years ago. It took a lot of time to get the hang of setting the right speed for the conditions. Once i got that mastered it became second nature. I have always fished with one hand so that part was easy. Being 60+ using the foot control wore me out. My tournament has a foot control and i am flat worn out after a day of running his, and he runs it most of the time. As far as the switches i keep several new on hand

I guess foot control is ok until you break a cable in a tournament, then u r screwed. This happened to me and a friend. I have always used a hand control with an extension handle and a switch on the floor. A lot simpler and a lot less to go wrong.

Roger I used a hand control up to the point I had to set down to fish. I used two floor mounted foot bottons to add to useability. You will love the hand control while standing and fishing.

Hand Control is the thing for Saltwater and bad backs. For Tournaments, Foot Control is the only way to go. You will look at a lot of the Elite Pros boats before you see a hand control. Probably > than 50:1 ratio Foot to Hand.

To me a hand control on a Bass boat is horrible.

To each his own.

Yes.. I'm still struggling with it.... because it has become 2nd nature. The boat that I am picking up Thursday has a hand control, but was considering slapping on a new Foot Control if I don't like the hand one.

I have a bad back and used a hand control for years. The Skeeter came with a foot. I thought I would give it a try. I guess the difference is the recessed tray but I'm doing fine with it. With out the recessed tray all your weight is on one foot.

Reading this thread, there has been only one mention to iPilot. Humminbirds Terrarova is awesome! For those that haven't tried it, I would suggest so ASAP!

Hand control TMs belong on the back of jon boats. 360 with a foot control and no additional hurdles to jump over on the front deck with a foot control. I don't understand it. I sorda get the iPilot...sorda, but not hand control units. Anytime you take a hand off your rod/reel you aren't fishing as effectively as possible. Just my .02.
