just my opinion i buy the 1198 and put a 788 up front and network with lakemaster version 2 for the ultimate in structure finding.

Wait a bit, save and get th new HDS touch. Structure scan is built into the unit if I read correctly so totaled out you spend a hair more than buy it all separate. And you have the new top line touch screen units.

You will need two quality graphs. I would go with 998si and a 858c that should put u around 2100$.

I would go with the 8 and 5 better sonar. The touch may be the best but I do not like buying brand new till all the bugs are gone.

998si would be my choice. Going to larger screen is another $1000. You could almost buy two 998si for the difference.

i have a 7" lowrance at the console and a 520 on the bow.. Go big or go home on the console I think even if i had downscan/sidescan on the bow i would just use it like i do now, so while it would be nice there too, getting the biggest on the console is the way i would go.

Go big. You'll be in a split screen mode most of the time and the extra screen size will really help. I bought mine from BigDaddyMarine.com and saved a chunk. Great service.

Wait a bit, save and get th new HDS touch. Structure scan is built into the unit if I read correctly so totaled out you spend a hair more than buy it all separate. And you have the new top line touch screen units. I put a new hds touch on my buddies boat for him this weekend and used it Saturday. It's really nice. And yes, you no longer need the lss with the new touch models. Only the 7 is out right now however, the 9 and 12 won't come out till closer to Christmas from what i've heard. the menu layouts are a little different, so it took some getting used to , i'm so used to the menu's on my hds's. Hopefully ythe 9 and 12 will have touch buttons where the quick keys are on the 8 and ten. I used his HB once on his boat before i put the new hds on there, good lord do hummingbirds menu's suck. no way i would buy one after that...
