I use braid or Seaguar Senshi mono. Something that floats will give the lure much better action imo

McCoys Mean green copolymer line.
Rod length depends on what you like and what bait you are going to throw. For a chugger or walk the dog type bait I like a 6/8 or 7ft rod. For a buzz bait or lunker punker I like to use a rod longer than 7ft.
Rod action also depends on the bait you are going to throw. Small to medium baits I would get a M action.
I like a M/H for buzz baits and a swim bait rod for the punker.
If you include frogs I use a 7-6 heavy action rod and braid.

too many variables! lets get started.
Wind will also change your baits action pending line size and mono or braid
LINE COVER: really thick, Braid lil poppers 30 lb, larger poppers& lil spooks 50 LB, frogs 65 thin, mono the smallest i can get away with except for the frog braid always braid its a better hook up! unforgiving (boat dock poles) light braid 30-50LB
ROD one that comfortably fits the cover and water color you are fishing clear water long rod+ long cast more= strikes for fliping top waters to bushes and scattered cover 6'4"-6'!0" thick hydrilla frogs and buzzbaits long hvy action rod fast tip frogs heavy action rod with a fast tip buzzbaits mhvy fast tip if the top water has treble hooks a crankbait rod works great (very soft=very forgiving
