Make sure that you can get your rod around the front or back of your boat, if you hook up with a big fish and he swims at you.
I used to fish with all shorter rods, as I would get frustrated with my line getting tangled around the tip of my rod on longer rods. On longer rods it was harder to fix, once it happened. paddle. cast. paddle. cast. it happened all the time.
Then I hooked up with a big redfish (I think), and couldn't get my rod around the bow of my boat.

All of mine are either 6'6" or 7'. But I think longer rods are the way of the future. Look at what the pros were using 15 years ago, I'd bet they'd thought you were crazy if you pulled out something longer than 6 foot. I think of longer and more high tech rods like golf clubs, they worked just fine 20 years ago, but the companies have figured out ways to make you think you need the newest most advanced rod. I'm guilty of both.

I try to stick with all 7' rods. I have one 6'6 . But 7 feet just feels comfortable in the kayak

With the exception of my 5' ultra-light spinning rod my shortest fresh water rod is 7'. When in salt 7' to 8' so I can reach around the end of my yak when the fish decides to change sides.

Like extra fast even IMO. But beware. Those super fast tips will break real easy!
Tell me about it!! running total is two for 2012.
This might be the weirdest, most pointless post ever. I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering fishing
