This time of the year is there a certain time of day on average that is best to fish? Are crappie best at dusk and dawn, or is it possible to have a good experience no matter the time of day?

I'd either be fishing from the bank or a kayak (no electronics yet). I usually fish grapevine but I'd travel to any of the lakes in the Fort Worth area.

thanks in advance.

The best time to fish for crappie this time of year is one hour before sunrise to two hours after sunrise.

The next best time is when you can go. Crappie will bite somewhere on the lake at all times this season of the year. Use the kayak and try to find structure in about 14 feet of water. To fish from the bank you need a pier with about that much water under it. The lighted pier at Lake Mineral Wells State Park is good.

if you want to send me a private message i will give some ideas and spots to try in the fort worth area .i know several spots that you can find fish without electronics.
i cant openly give any advice on the forum now because of all the people who dislike me helping other people ketch fish.this crappie thing is supposed to be a BIG secret and its taboo to help anyone ketch them .

That Benny Dabney guy catches a lot of fish on Grapevine. You should book a trip with him. You can catch crappie most anytime of day. Good luck! Welcome to the TFF home for thump addicts.

Just my two pennies. If im fishing a new place or even my special spots, I go different times of the day to see when they bite the best. I also, take about four different rods, three with minnows and one with a jig. I have my minnows set at different depths so that I can where they are holding. I use my jig rod to see if I even need minnows. Once I figure out what I need to do, I usually put all but one maybe two poles up. That's fishing from my fish hunter and from the bank. Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone. I'll be happy with general areas like West side of Lake such and such. Or around this park or Marina. I do like Mineral Wells I hear it's a good Crappie lake and i think it's just a beautiful park.

I can confirm that Lake Mineral Wells is a good spot to take a yak. Crappie seem to be the go-to fish, and there are a couple points near the dam towards the large old concrete/steel structures, which is an easy paddle from the boat launch area, that hold some nice sized crappie. I trolled around thre in my yak for a while until i found a spot they were biting but had a difficult time with the wind. Take an anchor for when you find the spots.
good luck...maybe I'll see you out on Grapevine.

I don't recall anyone complaining about people helping other people. In fact, I recall several posts where people said that's why they like TFF cause people help other people with tips and how to's. As far as the BIG SECRET, I seem to recall your posts where you commented on making sure you cropped out the background of your pics so no one could tell what lake you were fishing. And you refer to the lake like a mystery location. Go back and read your posts, I think you'll see what I'm talking about.

Here's some good info about times to fish.
http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/8077476/youve_been_MOONED#Post8077476

The solar/lunar tables can be beneficial. But weather also plays a part. If the major time is 9am, and there's a 30mph north wind blowing, that may not be the exact best time.
