Heres my strategy... i'd choose a medium or medium heavy fast action casting model. anywhere from 6'9" to 7'0" in length. -i would start out buy tossing aroung a 5" senko on a 1/8 oz. wacky rig. (limit out with this setup) -i would then spend most of the rest of the day upping my total weight with a 3/8 oz. spinnerbait -with the sun setting, i would switch to a walk-the-dog type topwater (spook, or strike king top dawg). I would use 30 lb. power pro and a 12 lb. leader for the wacky rig. So a medium to medium heavy couldn't handle a crankbait? but it will handle a 3/4oz spinnerbait.... interesting. And for the record I throw a shakey head with a 7'6" hvy action rod w/ 50lb braid and a 20lb leader. Although these are the "magnum" shakey head's with 4/0 hooks but still. my top 3 lures 1.jig/shakey head 2.crankbait 3.weightless fluke And to elaborate more on the one rod deal. A 7' MH action rod will handle all of the above just fine (although I prefer medium for my weightless presentations) First, i think you misread the size of the spinnerbait i mentioned... but thats ok. Second, i agree a MH will "handle" a crankbait just fine. but just to clarify, i originally said FAST action. and with that in mind, i wouldn't throw a crankbait on a MH fast action in a million years...not when i'm getting my pick of any 3 lures. To me, the power of the rod has little to do with effectivness when compared to the taper of the rod. In fact, i prefer a MH rod for most crankbait applications...only with a much more moderate action. if im fishing from the bank, and i only get to choose 3 lures to use, im going with the fast action for more versatility, and leaving the crankbaits at home...along with the ol' shakey head on 50lb. braid rig

Assuming I'm competing with a bunch of other fellows with a shotgun start from the same bank and that this is not a peak bank fishing season like the spring spawn, I imagine the winner is probably going to be the fastest fisher.
That's not really my style though, so I'd probably find the stiffest 9' high end crappie pole I could find and fish with the following 3 baits culling through the resident dink spots and lmb. Maybe I'd lose or maybe I'd be the only guy with 5 fish?
1) 1/4 mini jig 2) 3" tiny fluke 3) 5" floating finesse worm w/ shakey head jig *a clip on float

Firetiger Chatter Bait (Chatter Frog), Bomber 6F Fat A Chartreuse Crank Bait, 10" Curly Tail worm Texas rigged in Junebug color
You can fish all of those with decent success on a single rod. My rod of choice is the Abu Garcia Veritas 6'6" Medium Action and since I fish Fork primarily my line of choice is 17# or 20# Berkley Vanish Transition

7'0" MH rod... 1/4 oz. Jig 1/4 oz. Rattletrap (sexy shad) 5" yum dinger agree completely with one exception - I'd have a spinnerbait instead of the jig!

Id have to go with a Lake Fork live magic shad, a senko worm, and a top water. Both plastics I'd texas rig with a weighted hook whether it be shaky head or swimbait hook`2
