I have a 2005 Mercury 90 h.p. saltwater series motor. After a short period of time running the motor, if I try to run between 5000 - 6000 rpm the motor starts to surge like it starving for fuel. If I lower the rpm to about 4000 to 4500 rpm she seems to run ok. it is a little hard to start sometimes. My boat has been sitting for several months with fuel in the tank. I use Stabil. Does anyone have any ideas on what it might be?

Check your fuel line if its grey w/red writing and is feeling a littl e like bubble gum the inner liner may have broke down and causing a fuel restriction. Other than that start with your basics, spark, compression.

Carb job is a possibility

Spark plugs are probably fouled.
