As other stated.
Find the lakes you want to fish, Hire a guide and cut your learning time down.
I would tell them to you are more interested in learning the lake and rather than catching fish

Don't let these guys confuse you. A largemouth bass behaves the same in California as it does in Texas. The difference is water clarity. A bass is an ambush predator (and quite skilled at it). If you find food and a place for a bass to hide...
My guess is that the biggest obstacle you will deal with is the water clarity and lack of confidence because it all looks so different. This time of year is a good time to be fishing. Shad are moving to the backs of creeks and the bass are following. You can catch them on just about anything you can throw.
And I thought you Cali boys called Lake Fork monsters, "bait"?

Well I'm not a Cali guy myself...was just stationed there for 4 years. Plus I'm still fairly new to bass fishing as I've only been doing it about 3 years so any bass is still exciting for me. Now don't get me wrong, I'm still looking for that big bite and I'm sure with more practice and experience it will come. You guys have been great and I truly appreciate all of the input!

Just arrived to Texas a few weeks ago from California and am hoping some of you expirenced Texas bass fisherman are willing to give some advice. I'm stationed at Sheppard AFB and have noticed there are quite a few lakes around the area. Took the boat out for the first time today for a short run on Amon G Carter. Got the lines wet for a little while but nothing in the boat today. It was strange seeing all the timber in the water (and watching out for it when it was just under the surface)! As luck would have it, no one at my new assignment that I know bass fishes so I'm hoping someone from around this area can give some pointers as to which lakes are good around here. Also, any tips or tricks regarding baits that are best for these Texas bass would be great! Thanks for any info/advice you have to offer! Welcome to Texas J and tanks for your service.! Amon Carter is a great live bait lake. Large shiners under balloons or water dogs will kill them! If you need to know how rig them up let me know.
