After this cold spell we've had in South Central Texas, the Rio's are starting to bunker down. They are in the tarmac waiting for their flights out of here and at best are doing some 'duty free' biting right now. I hit Salado because it's spring fed right next to Fort Sam Houston and generally a bit warmer, but I think the spring is shut off right now (construction) and the water is easily 10-15 degrees cooler than it was 10 days ago or so...definitely colder than Center Point Lake (Guadalupe River) was just this last Saturday. We're into the low 50's at night. We might have a great fall weekend for fishing come this weekend - temps are supposed to be about 82 or so in SA. I also stopped at the local ponds trying to catch a few bass - had a nice one but the hookset wasn't right and it jumped off. Here is a nicely built Windcrestgill I caught today! Little bass...these guys get real busy in them creeks right about now it seems... I caught 2 Rios today...this was one...

Nice Ones "Drrouter"! Good to see a Rio. How was the Rio bite? Were they scattered and a little harder to find?

Nice Ones "Drrouter"! Good to see a Rio. How was the Rio bite? Were they scattered and a little harder to find? BAF - Water temp was way down and all fish were scattered. I did see a few bull Rios keeping close to cover, but nothing like I was seeing just a few weeks ago. This week of 80+ temps may extend the Rio season, but they were hard to find today, and when I did spot em, they wouldn't bite fer' nuthin!
